We are thrilled to share with you the completion of our Keethler Court project. After many months of thoughtful work, we’re finally able to share the finished spaces, and they feel every bit as inviting as we’d hoped. This renovation reshaped the entire first floor in order to accommodate a new kitchen, pantry, breakfast nook, and mudroom. From the earliest sketches, our aim was to create rooms that feel layered and lived-in, places where comfort and character blend seamlessly together. Every detail was carefully considered from the integration of appliances to the sight lines when you first enter the home.

A home’s flow means everything, and here we wanted to encourage the simple act of gathering. Storage is thoughtfully provided in every space while still allowing the beauty of materials to shine. From the 9' stained oak island to the natural stone countertops, each selection was made with longevity in mind.

Feel free to explore and experience each space below where you'll find additional details and sources. And over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing even more about the overall renovation.

Kitchen

As the true heart of the home, the biggest transformation in this home was the relocation and re-design of the kitchen. Our goal was to provide a welcoming space where you long to gather and are met by rich tones that foster warmth and character.

We chose to paint the perimeter cabinets Farrow & Ball Mouse's Back, the perfect shade of gray brown. Depending on the lighting and time of day, this color sometimes even reads slightly green and pairs perfectly with the richness of the blue hues in the soapstone. For the island, we paired a beautiful quartzite countertop with a rich brown stain applied to red oak. For the plumbing fixtures, we selected the Kohler Artifacts Bridge Faucet as well as the Single-Handle Bar Faucet both in the polished nickel finish.

On either side of the the large cased opening, we tucked the refrigerator/freezer to one side, balancing them with a little coffee nook on the other. A simple detail that brings functionality and a sense of symmetry to the room. The glossy black ILVE range adds just the right amount of drama, paired with the handmade look of the Salt Creek Gloss 4x4 Fireclay Tile.

Aged brass is carried throughout the space in both the cabinet hardware and lighting, providing the perfect amount of warmth. Above the island hang two beautifully made Brass Cone Cord Pendants from Matt Alford Studio. And over the coffee nook, a Chapman & Myers 18" Cabinet Maker's Picture Light from Visual Comfort adds that perfect finishing touch. We mixed three hardware selections the Georgian Pull, Liberty Pull and Serenity Knob, all sourced from Tradition Hardware in the finish Lacquered Aged Brass.

Breakfast Nook

From the moment you open the front door, you are met with a view of this cozy breakfast nook. We designed and built this custom bench to become a space in the home where the family would gather before, during and after mealtime.

We selected the Perennials Tatton Stripe in Basalt for the back cushion fabric and the Perennials Rough n' Rowdy in Basalt for the seat cushion fabric. Upheld by Fabric Farms beautifully crafted and created the bench cushions and we cannot recommend them enough if you are local to Columbus, Ohio. The Zenaida Chandelier from Shades of Light along with the linen café curtain add the perfect amount of softness to the space.

Pantry

Just off of the kitchen sits this butter-yellow pantry, a space that feels every bit as charming as it is useful. A large seven-foot hutch offers generous storage, complemented by deep drawers and base cabinets that keep everything neatly in its place. Above, open shelves with dainty corbels rest against tongue-and-groove paneling, giving the whole room the character of an old country cottage.

We painted the cabinets Farrow & Ball Dorset Cream paired with the quartzite used on the kitchen island. The blue undertones in the veining of the quartzite perfectly complement the richness of the yellow cabinets. We continued the kitchen cabinet hardware in the pantry by using the Georgian Pull and Serenity Knob in Lacquered Aged Brass. The Naomi Ribbed Flush Mount from Anthropologie complements the fluting detail in the breakfast nook light and adds to the overall charm of the space.

Mudroom

Last, but certainly not least, is the addition of a dedicated mudroom to the first floor. Originally a laundry room, we relocated the laundry room to the second floor where the bedrooms are located and designed a mudroom that is located opposite of the garage entrance.

Every inch of cabinetry, millwork, casing, and tongue-and-groove paneling is painted in Farrow & Ball’s Dead Salmon, a color that brings a soft warmth to the space. We designed five tall locker cabinets, each sitting above deep, generous cubbies, perfect for gathering up the everyday necessities of family life: backpacks, coats, muddy shoes, and all the in-between things that never seem to have a home. Overhead, the Paris Flush Mount in Antique Brass from Shoppe Amber Interiors provides a taste of vintage charm.

I truly hope you enjoyed this project reveal. As previously mentioned, we'll be sharing more in-depth renovation details in the coming weeks so be sure to follow along. Have questions about this project? Drop them in the comment section below!
